Historic Mesilla Restaurant La Posta de Mesilla Celebrates 75 Years
MESILLA, N.M., Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- La Posta de Mesilla located in southern New Mexico is celebrating 75 years.
"There's so much history here," says Tom Hutchinson who owns the restaurant along with his wife, Jerean. "When Katy Camunez Griggs founded La Posta in September of 1939, she had four tables and a dirt floor! But from that single room she built La Posta into one of the most famous restaurants in the region!"
"We want to celebrate Katy's legacy," adds Jerean Camunez Hutchinson, Katy's niece. "La Posta is a historical landmark due to the many family and friends who have dined here for decades, and because of our wonderful employees -- many who've worked here for decades themselves."
Celebrating their 75th anniversary, Tom and Jerean are planning a 1930's themed gala on September 25th. "We're going to have fun and reminisce about the era when we first opened," says Jerean. "We want people to dress up like they did in the 1930s. A prize for the best dressed will be awarded and we'll have 1930's classic cocktails, food, music y mas!"
The gala showcases the historic Fountain Theatre next door with live music on stage. La Posta will unveil their third barrel of Herradura Double Barrel Reposado Tequila. "This tequila was created exclusively for La Posta," noted Jerean.
Commemorating 75 great years, the gala event is only $7.50 per person and reservations must be made in advance. Guests can RSVP by calling Jeanne Lucero at 524-3524. More information can be found at http://www.laposta-de-mesilla.com/home/upcoming-events
About La Posta de Mesilla
La Posta de Mesilla was established in 1939 in a historic compound dating from the mid-1840s. The building is one of the last commercially viable stops on the Butterfield Stagecoach line. Through the years the single room that housed the restaurant expanded to include a beautiful lobby area with artwork galore, tropical birds and live piranhas, as well as many quaint and large dining rooms. The Adobe Cantina y Tequileria, boasts over 100 tequilas. USA Today recognized La Posta as one of the Top 10 Mexican restaurants in the country!
In 2009 the US Navy named the galley of their newest submarine, the USS New Mexico, La Posta Abajo de Mar (La Posta under the sea) in honor of the famed restaurant.
