Historic Corner Store and Home to Sell to Highest Bidder
As OK bill passes, investors seek small town properties
SHAWNEE, Okla., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- National Commercial Auctioneers, LLC (www.natcomauctioneers.com) announces the absolute public auction of two properties in Shawnee, Okla., on May 7, according to Whitey Mason, Corporate Auctioneer for the company.
One commercial building and one adjacent residential home located in a growing area of downtown Shawnee will sell to the highest bidder at a court-ordered bankruptcy auction. The properties are situated on a well-traveled street and consist of a 2,000 square foot commercial building with frame-style 1,200 square foot residential house located next door.
Mason explained, "A recent bill passed by the senate supports business owners of small, corner grocery stores to open up shop again. The Shawnee property is perfect for this set-up with the adjacent livable space."
According to State House Representative, Seneca Scott (D), District 72, "This bill will benefit Oklahoma's farmers and ranchers by providing another outlet to sell fresh produce and products. Many Oklahoma communities are without local grocery stores and this will give them those outlets while also providing healthy homegrown food." Other business venture options could include: a convenience store, retail store; even an office space for an independent business or firm.
The structure was built by our nation's "Greatest Generation" giving the store historical significance. The building is encased in brick, with a flat tar and gravel roof that was installed new in 2008. The interior ceiling is stamped tin which was popular in the 1930's post-depression building era. There is a 3'x20' facade across the front for a business sign, along with a clay tile awning that covers the front door and large display windows. The adjacent home has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a large living room and formal dining room. Both structures occupy 2.5 lots on the corner of Highland and Pennsylvania Streets.
The on-site auction of these combined properties is scheduled for May 7, 2010, at 10am. The properties will be sold to the highest bidder.
