Hire a Coach During Professional Wellness Month
Coaches help people achieve their career goals
LEXINGTON, Ky., June 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- If you are looking to advance your career, learn new skills, and increase your worth in the marketplace, June might be a great time to start by partnering with a professional coach.
This month is Professional Wellness Month, also known as Occupational or Career Wellness Month, and was originally founded by Words of Wellness to help people live an overall healthier life. It also offers a great opportunity to help others find ways to make improvements in their lives -- which is exactly the purpose of professional coaching.
"Achieving professional wellness can be done in many ways, but one way we know to be effective is by partnering with a professional coach," said 2011 ICF President and Professional Certified Coach Ed Modell. "Updating your resume or learning a new skill might help you get to the next step in your career, but coaching can help you define and achieve your overall career goals with long-lasting results."
"Optimizing individual or team work performance" was the top reason people chose to partner with a coach, according to the 2010 ICF Global Consumer Awareness Study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Coaching has been proven to help people attain their professional goals and this can naturally translate to a sense of professional wellness. In fact, the 2009 ICF Global Coaching Client Study, also conducted by PwC with Association Resource Centre Inc., showed that 82 percent of respondents saw a positive change in their goal area of "work performance." Positive change was also seen in goal areas of team effectiveness, wellness, business management, work-life balance, career opportunities, time management, and more.
Not only are people reaching their professional goals through coaching, but they are also very satisfied with coaching. The ICF Global Consumer Awareness Study found 83 percent of coaching clients surveyed were satisfied with their coaching experience.

"Whether you hope to find a new job or fulfill your dream to open your own business, this month is a great time to start working on your professional goals with a coach," Modell concluded.
ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaching is a distinct service and differs greatly from therapy, consulting, mentoring, or training. Individuals who engage in a coaching relationship can expect to experience fresh perspectives on personal challenges and opportunities, enhanced thinking and decision-making skills, enhanced interpersonal effectiveness, and increased confidence in carrying out their chosen work and life roles.
