HATBORO, Pa., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Healthcare Informatics Associates (HIA), an InfoLogix, Inc. (Nasdaq: IFLG) company, announced today that it has successfully assisted Hilo Medical Center in Hilo, Hawaii in going live with Phase 1 of one of the nation's first MEDITECH 6.0 electronic medical record (EMR) implementations and becoming the first hospital on the 'big island' of Hawaii to bring the EMR to the patient's bedside.

With the implementation of Phase 1 of the engagement going live on May 1, Hilo has advanced from paper-based systems toward an automated EMR system designed to provide a single source for patient records and treatment, improve patient safety, more accurately capture revenue, and move the organization towards Meaningful Use. Some of the modules implemented during this phase include revenue cycle management, HIM health records, pharmacy, emergency department, and full nursing documentation and physician orders for all departments, as well as interfaces to pharmacy robotics, Pyxis® medication machines, and more.
As part of the strategy to mobilize Hilo's EMR initiatives, InfoLogix and HIA also have a multi-year agreement in place, announced in 2009, to provide wireless managed services across the Hilo Medical Center facility.
HIA is on the leading-edge of organizations with the resources to implement and support MEDITECH 6.0, with a uniquely qualified team that includes registered nurses, pharmacists and clinicians that have performed multiple MEDITECH implementations over the past decade, as well as hundreds of successful EMR module implementations across a wide variety of healthcare organizations. During the next phase of the engagement, HIA will help extend Hilo's EMR capabilities to include computerized physician order entry (CPOE), bedside medication verification (BMV), LSS practice management for physician office systems, scanning and archiving (SCA) and additional capabilities.
"This is a major step forward toward Hilo's goal to achieve a fully-integrated clinical and revenue cycle system which will optimize patient safety and operational efficiency across our East Hawaii region facilities," said Money Atwal, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Information Officer of Hilo Medical Center. "I believe that the partnership between Hilo and HIA is unique in that it extends well beyond the technical aspects -- HIA truly understands how to make an EMR implementation translate into better quality of care and business results."
"From the outset of this engagement, our goal has been for Hilo's implementation to set the standard for what a state-of-the-art EMR can deliver," said Gerry Bartley, president of Healthcare Informatics Associates, an InfoLogix company. "It was amazing to see the Hilo Medical Center staff step up to the task with such commitment and determination, especially in light of the fact that they have never previously had the opportunity to participate in an EMR system implementation. From the medical staff, nursing, department heads and staff – all were committed to nothing less than success. The unwavering support from the administrative staff and Board was tremendous. We're proud to have helped Hilo reach a major milestone in our mutual objective, on time and on budget, and we're looking forward to helping them reach the full potential of these new MEDITECH 6.0 capabilities."
Healthcare Informatics Associates and InfoLogix will be available to discuss the implementation at the 2010 International Medical Users Software Exchange (MUSE) Conference from June 1-4 in Dallas at the Gaylord Texan Hotel & Convention Center, booth #236.
