HILLSDALE, Mich., Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College announced today that its women's track team ranks No. 1 in the nation, according to a recent poll by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II. This is the first time Hillsdale's women's indoor track team has earned the top ranking in the NCAA Division II.
"Our women's team is quite experienced and very motivated," said head coach Andrew Towne. "Only one member of last year's NCAA Runner-Up team graduated, so the team is excited for what lies ahead in the next three weeks. I am very proud of these young ladies, and how they represent Hillsdale."
The 32 members of the 2015-16 team include returning champions Kristina Galat, Emily Oren, Molly Oren, Hannah McIntyre, Kate Royer, and senior captain Corinne Zehner. Among the team's newest members, freshman Kristin Freeman is ranked 6th nationally in high jump, and freshman Dana Newell is 8th nationally in weight throw.
Only two meets remain in the 2015-16 indoor season. On Feb. 27-28, the team heads to Tiffin, Ohio, for the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championships. On March 11-12, the team heads to Pittsburg, Kansas, for the national championships.
