Hillsdale College Women's Indoor Track Finishes Second in the Nation
HILLSDALE, Mich., March 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College is proud to congratulate its women's indoor track team for finishing second at the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. This is the second consecutive year that Hillsdale has finished second at the national championship.
"This is an extraordinarily talented and hard-working team, and I could not be more proud of their accomplishments this indoor season," said Andrew Towne, head coach for the women's indoor track team. The championship was held March 11 and 12 at Pittsburg State University in Kansas. Seniors Emily Oren and Corinne Zehner, junior Molly Oren, and sophomore Hannah Watts broke a school record in the distance medley relay (DMR) event. It was the second national championship relay for Emily Oren and Zehner, while Molly Oren and Watts each earned their first career national championship. Emily Oren also won the NCAA Division II national title in the mile run (4:35.48) and the 3,000 meters (9:27.28).
Hillsdale College has won four straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) DMR events in addition to these back-to-back national titles.
The Hillsdale Chargers took second place. The team from Lincoln University executed a record-setting performance in the 4x400 meter relay and nudged past the Chargers in a 60 to 58 victory.
