Hillsdale College Unveils Virtual 3D Imagery of Christ Chapel Building Project
Chapel construction enters final stages ahead of spring 2019 opening
HILLSDALE, Mich., Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College is pleased to unveil virtual three-dimensional (3D) imagery of its Christ Chapel building project. The model, while not exact in color or detail, allows viewers to explore projections of the finished 27,000 sq. ft. building. The chapel is expected to be completed in spring of 2019.
"Christ Chapel will be at the heart of Hillsdale College, and it is encouraging to see the space unfolding," said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer at Hillsdale College. "We look forward to opening its doors in the spring."
Construction on Christ Chapel began in March 2017, and the completed building will seat 1,350 people and feature a 64-foot painted barrel ceiling, 14 columns, wooden pews and arched windows.
A non-denominational worship space, the chapel will house religious services, concerts, convocations and other academic ceremonies. Located at the north end of the central quad, Christ Chapel will serve as a reminder of the College's commitment to "teach by precept and example the essentials of the Christian faith."
Christ Chapel was designed by Notre Dame University professor of architecture Duncan Stroik. Its design complements Hillsdale College's Central Hall and is modeled after the English church St. Martin-in-the-Fields, which was the inspiration for Philadelphia's famous Christ Church.
