Hillsdale College Launches New Syndicated Radio Program
New show, The Radio Free Hillsdale Hour, aims to share the teaching and learning happening on campus with listeners across the country
HILLSDALE, Mich., April 17, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College announces the launch of The Radio Free Hillsdale Hour, a new nationally syndicated radio program produced by the College. The program currently is broadcast on nine stations in three states.
"The ideas and arguments discussed here at Hillsdale College are relevant to all citizens, and this new radio program is one way to share them with people across the country," said Scot Bertram, general manager of WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. "Talk radio listeners already know Hillsdale by reputation. Now they'll have the opportunity to hear from the school's faculty, staff, alumni, and others directly."
The Radio Free Hillsdale Hour is a talk radio program addressing public affairs and news through the lens of classical liberal arts education. Segments of the show feature interviews with Hillsdale College scholars and experts from around the country, explorations of various elements of liberal arts education, and highlights of College events or announcements. Guests in the show's initial weeks of production have included prominent economist Stephen Moore, best-selling author and columnist Victor Davis Hanson, Claremont Institute scholar John Marini, and author Brian Christian, among many others.
The Radio Free Hillsdale Hour is hosted by WRFH general manager Scot Bertram and produced with assistance from a Hillsdale student producer. Bertram boasts a long career in radio with experience in a variety of positions, including Chicago's ESPN 1000 and news talk station WROK in Rockford, Illinois. He joined Hillsdale College in 2016 and helped develop WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Bertram remains active in broadcasting, producing original stories for the Illinois Radio Network and Illinois News Network. He also serves as a frequent guest host for Michigan's Steve Gruber Show and the Illinois-based Michael Koolidge Show.
The Radio Free Hillsdale Hour is broadcast on seven stations in Michigan through Michigan Talk Network as well as Bold Gold Media's 94.3 The Talker/WTRW in northeastern Pennsylvania and iHeart Media's KION AM & FM in California's central coast. The program is also available in podcast form from iTunes, SoundCloud, Google Play, and other podcast distributors.
