Hillsdale College Launches Charter School Initiative

HILLSDALE, Mich., May 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College announced today it has launched a K-12 charter school initiative to have a positive and lasting effect on the education of young Americans.  The school will be based on a classical liberal arts model and will have a strong civics component that will equip students to understand and defend the principles of the American Constitution.

On May 31, 2010, Hillsdale College will issue a Request for Proposal, inviting proposals from parents and local citizens who are committed to education reform, who plan to apply or are in the process of applying for a charter, and who are interested in an association with Hillsdale.  Particular focus will be on the states of Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas, due to their laws governing charter schools. 

When a finalist is selected, Hillsdale College will provide both curricular and financial assistance to the charter school.
