Hillsdale College Charger Kyle Cooper Named GLIAC Player of the Year, CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year
HILLSDALE, Mich., March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College is pleased to congratulate Kyle Cooper, senior forward for the Hillsdale Chargers basketball team, for being named the Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American of the Year for NCAA Division II.
"Kyle is an extraordinary talent, both on and off the court," said John Tharp, head basketball coach at Hillsdale College. "It's incredible to see him approach his academic work with equal commitment, skill, and attention to detail as he does on the court. We couldn't be prouder of his achievements."
As part of his Academic All-American of the Year honor, Cooper was also named First-Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA for the second year in a row.
On Feb. 29, Cooper was named the 2015-16 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year. He is the first Hillsdale men's basketball player ever to win the conference's top honor, and the first Charger from any sport to win since the 1983-84 season.
Cooper finished the regular season leading the conference in both scoring (22.8 points per game) and 3-point shooting percentage (.453). He had six games of 30 or more points and two 40-point games, the latter a feat unmatched in Hillsdale College history. During the 2015-16 season, he was named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week five times, the most of any conference player this season and the most of any men's basketball player in program history.
He is a 2012 graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School.
