Hike POS Introduces Cloud Receipts That Could Save Upto 80% Paper and 100k a Year
MELBOURNE, Australia, April 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hike, a cloud-based point of sale solution provider from Melbourne, expects to save city $100,000 a year just by using the cloud technology for customer receipts. However, cost saving is just a bi-product, it's the environment that's helped the most.

With this new innovation retailers are able to post receipts to the cloud rather than printing them. The digitally sent receipts save upto 80% paper and it's very easy to use for both retailers and users, Hike claims. "Think 80% paper saving per receipt, now think of the size of your city and multiply it by the total number of receipts printed every day. Our small businesses and the environment would benefit the most from it," Says Hike founder Hiren Savjiyani.
He adds, "Technology is growing so fast around us but when it comes to retail we are still mostly relying on 30-year-old outdated technologies. This was the very reason we launched Hike in 2015, to bridge the gap that exists in the industry. We provide innovative solution for multichannel retail, inventory management, integrations and much more. However, right until now, we also struggled with delivering effective digital receipt solution just like the other few POS providers who tried."
Because 'email receipt' feature is not so successful and there are reasons for it.
The receipt emailing is built-in to Hike since their first launch in 2015. However, only 1 in 10 receipts are emailed and rest are still printed. In their research Hike found these to be the main reasons: 1. The time that it takes to manually enter email addresses which may not always be feasible when there are customers waiting in queue and; 2. Customers have to give away their email addresses. This is something that most would hesitate to do because it'd potentially open doors to influx of junk emails.
Search for solution begins, AllReceipt is found.
In early 2016, Hike teamed up with Star Cloud Services, the division of Star Micronics that specializes in digital receipt solutions. "We're so pleased to have come across this solution. Apparently, good folks at Star Cloud Services have already been working on finding answer to the same problem. We believe that they have perfectly achieved it in form of 'AllReceipts.' Star's AllReceipts is a ground breaking innovation and we almost instantaneously decided to integrate it into Hike" Says Alex K, CTO at Hike.
A simple & effective solution built-in to Hike POS
This integration partnership has exclusively enabled Hike POS users with an effective alternative to the problematic 'receipt emailing' feature. When a retailer is using a compatible Star Micronics printer, Hike prompts an optional Star Cloud Services activation. Once activated, Hike POS does the rest behind the scenes. Receipts are automatically saved on cloud and easily accessible by the customers. Here is how it works:
- Instead of printing a full receipt, merchant simply prints out a QR code.
- Customer downloads the full receipt by scanning the QR code with smart phone camera
- Also, there is an optional receipt wallet app. Makes it even easier to save and organize receipts.
This is most likely a step forward from printing or even emailing receipts. However, success of this ground breaking technology relies heavily on how retailers and consumers perceive it. Its all about the number game and take up rate. Alex adds, "It's a new innovation so we won't be seeing any significant results just yet. Let's look at the long picture. We believe that as the user base grows, this technology is going to prove itself very popular and most likely a game changer."
