PHOENIX, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the first time ever, the Phoenix Business Journal ranked Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) number 35 out of the top 50 high schools in Arizona based on SAT scores. This ranking includes all state schools in Arizona and measures student work on the standardized test taken during the 2014 school year. A steadfast focus on academics helped the school reach the number 35th spot – the school's highest ranking to date on this prestigious annual list.
"Congratulations to all of our students who engaged in the SAT and helped AZVA reach this milestone. We could not be more proud!" exclaimed Kelly Van Sande, Arizona Virtual Academy Head of School.
The SAT is administered by the College Board. The standardized test ranks skills in mathematics, critical reading and writing. AZVA students had an average score of 1638, nearly 150 points above the national average of 1490.
When asked about how AZVA prepared her for the SAT, as well as her future, valedictorian Sarah Negovan said, "My time with AZVA has certainly fostered my personal success!"
"We are pleased to see our SAT scores reach this level," added Ms. Van Sande, "This ranking is a reflection of the way our students are thriving. Our graduates leave AZVA well-prepared for whatever the future holds."
