Higher One Provides $50,000 in Scholarships for Colleges and Universities Nationwide
20 recipients of the One Scholarship selected from more than 400 applications
NEW HAVEN, Conn., Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Higher One®, a technology and payment services company focused on higher education, has selected 20 recipients of its annual One Scholarship. Each student recipient gets $2,500 to put toward his or her college or university tuition. More than 400 applicants competed for the prize, which totals $50,000 in scholarship money. "Higher One was pleased to have received a wealth of submissions from students all over the country who have - or are working to - overcome personal and financial hurdles to achieve success through higher education. All of the winners presented compelling, creative and inspiring stories and we congratulate them all," said Mark Volchek, co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of Higher One. Three additional winners who wish to remain anonymous will also receive scholarship money to be put toward their school tuition.
Candidates for the scholarship were asked to consider how they have overcome obstacles to achieve educational goals and live Higher One's philosophy of "There is a way." Submissions were received in the form of short videos and were evaluated based on creativity, originality, quality and impact of the student's story. Eligible candidates were students at colleges and universities nationally who partner with Higher One for OneDisburse® Refund Management® services, were enrolled either full or part time, were 18 years or older, and had a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
