Hicks Thomas Congratulates Firm Appellate Lawyer Eric Grant on Key DOJ Post
Attorney to lead appeals for Environment and Natural Resources Division
HOUSTON, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas-based litigation boutique Hicks Thomas LLP is pleased to congratulate firm colleague Eric Grant on his appointment to be a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice.
Mr. Grant, an appellate specialist, will be supervising appeals for the Department's Environment and Natural Resources Division, which enforces some 150 federal civil and criminal statutes. Mr. Grant will play a leading role in directing the government's handling of the most significant disputes arising under U.S. environmental law – issues involving clean air, clean water, endangered species, and hazardous waste, among others.
"We're incredibly proud of the work Eric has done here at Hicks Thomas," said firm co-founder John B. Thomas. "He exemplifies the high quality of lawyers available to our clients. Our nation will be getting a tremendously dedicated, talented, and insightful lawyer."
A board-certified appellate law specialist, Mr. Grant is no stranger to important federal legal matters. He has argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, served in the DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel, and clerked for two Supreme Court Justices, Clarence Thomas and the late Warren Burger.
During his eight years at Hicks Thomas, he has successfully defended clients in litigation involving Superfund and other environmental contamination claims. He also won a unanimous decision in the California Supreme Court that established the right of ratepayers to lower utility rates charged by public agencies.
"I am looking forward to advancing the new administration's environmental policies in appellate courts around the country," said Mr. Grant. "But after eight years I will miss collaborating with the talented team of litigators at Hicks Thomas."
