SAN JOSE, Calif., May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- HGST, a Western Digital company (NASDAQ: WDC), today announced the availability of an Oracle Validated Configuration for FlashMAX II along with HP® ProLiant™ running Oracle Linux with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Oracle Database 12c. The Oracle Validated Configuration program simplifies system implementation and deployment with a pre-tested and validated architecture, including software, hardware, storage and network components. Using Virident® FlashMAX Connect software suite, Oracle administrators can confidently configure Oracle Real Application Clusters distributed across multiple FlashMAX II PCIe cards. This combination provides a flexible, all-flash server-side storage pool of up to 72TB per node that can reduce storage performance bottlenecks and creates a distributed, reliable storage architecture.
Additionally, administrators can leverage FlashMAX Connect's vShare features to provide low-latency shared access to PCIe flash between servers and utilize Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) for volume management and data mirroring across cluster nodes to better manage shared flash resources across an organization.
This validation of FlashMAX II for Oracle Linux builds on HGST's portfolio of advanced storage solutions designed for applications in online banking, manufacturing, and other industries that rely on high-performance Oracle databases.
"We are pleased to offer a unique server-side all-flash storage pool for Oracle administrators that need a flexible, high-performing storage solution that can scale independently of compute resources," said Ashish Singhai, chief software architect, HGST SSD, Software and Solutions business unit. "HGST is dedicated to delivering storage solutions that address critical business applications, like those found in Oracle Database deployments, through forward-looking technologies that can be found in our FlashMAX portfolio."
FlashMAX II and Virident FlashMAX Connect for Oracle Real Application Clusters are available now.
FlashMAX II is a Storage Class Memory (SCM) solution that offers enterprises exceptional performance combined with high storage capacity in a small footprint. FlashMAX PCIe SSDs range in capacity from 550GB to 4.8TB. In a half-length by half-height form factor, FlashMAX fits in virtually any server with high capacity in a single low-profile card, enabling organizations to maximize the use of valuable data center space and reduce data center sprawl.
FlashMAX Connect software builds on the FlashMAX II hardware platform and adds flash-aware network-level storage capabilities. With FlashMAX Connect, Oracle Database administrators can deploy applications on flash storage with shared block-level access and create high availability across servers, while keeping the low-latency advantages of PCIe-attached flash.
