"HFR will proudly demonstrate the flexiHaul solution in the LTE Asia. The participant will experience the fiber ring demo to deliver CPRI 3, 4, 5, 6 between BBU (Base Band Units) hotel and RRH (Remote Radio Heads) with very small latency. In addition to deliver CPRI, flexiHaul is carrying packet traffic over the same fiber ring," stated Peter K. Cho, EVP of Global Business Unit of HFR. "It gives MNO the best utilization of their fiber plant."
The flexiHaul is developed by supporting from SKT, the leading mobile operator in Korea. SKT already hits 5 million LTE subscribers since it started LTE service in Q3 of 2011. SKT have built the SCAN (Smart Cloud Access Network) which BBUs are centralized at BBU hotel and deliver CPRI signals over fiber ring to the remote RRHs. "SCAN gives us the great advantages both of OPEX and CAPEX. The ring structure of SCAN saves about 60% CAPEX compared with point to point connection. We have designed SCAN for next 10 years' bandwidth explosion," said the Team leader of Network Engineering of SKT.
During the conference, an executive from HFR will join panel discussions outlining the opportunities for mobile operators looking to evolve their mobile networks towards future IT and mobile broadband services.
On Day 2 at 16:30, Peter K. Cho will join a panel discussion on "The role of fibre in a complete mobile broadband offering" of the Small Cell Asia Congress section.
