Herzing University Names New System Dean of Nursing
Dean to lead growing program that is meeting increased demand for nurses across the country
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., May 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Herzing University has named Mary Judith Yoho, PhD, RN, CNE, as system dean of nursing, where she will provide leadership and oversight for Herzing University campus and online nursing programs.
Yoho has more than 35 years of experience in nursing, including roles in nursing practice, instruction, research, management and education policy. Yoho will provide oversight and support for all nursing programs delivered by Herzing University, including LPN, ASN, BSN, RN to BSN, MSN-FNP and MSN-NE.
"I'm looking forward to preparing Herzing students to meet the country's future healthcare needs because the demand for nurses will be strong for many years," said Yoho, who previously served in national and campus-level roles for national nursing academic institutions. "We will ensure that Herzing nursing graduates are ready to care for today's patients as well as for future healthcare challenges."
Yoho said Herzing will help its nursing students and the healthcare industry prepare for current and future trends, including:
- An aging population that will include many "super seniors" over 85 years old
- Advanced practice nurse practitioners serving as the healthcare provider for all patient populations
- Preparation for the next global health challenge
- Providing care for victims of violence, trauma and natural disasters
- Resolving the shortage of nurses and nurse educators
- Increasing the diversity of the nursing workforce
Throughout her career, Yoho has coordinated and participated in multiple grant projects and has authored and co-authored publications on topics including student testing and faculty recruitment and retention. She also has presented nationally and internationally in the areas of test development, exam analysis, teaching strategies, learner engagement and preparing nursing students for first-time success on the National Council State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) National Certification Licensing Exam (NCLEX) for Practical and Registered Nurses.
Yoho earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and her PhD in Nursing Science at Texas Women's University. She is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International and the American Nurses' Association.
