Hertz Recognized with Corporate Responsibility Champion Award
Company Earns Accolades for Sustainability Efforts
ESTERO, Fla., June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HTZ) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, The Hertz Corporation, has been awarded a 2017 Corporate Responsibility (CR) Champion Award by the Council of Corporate Responsibility in partnership with the National Diversity Council. The award recognizes organizations that demonstrate outstanding achievements and sustained commitment to the pursuit of Corporate Responsibility in the workplace and community.
As part of Hertz's commitment to corporate responsibility, the company currently has seven LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design™) green building program certified locations throughout the U.S., including Hertz's world headquarters in Estero, Florida, which is LEED Gold® certified. Nearly 80 percent of the company's vehicles in the U.S. have a minimum fuel-efficiency rating of 28+ highway miles per gallon, and environmental efficiency programs' efforts resulted in recycling over 2 million gallons of used oil and auto waste in 2015. The Hertz corporate responsibility program also includes mixed recycling at Hertz rental locations, as well as tire recycling, which resulted in nearly 300,000 tires diverted from landfills in 2015.
"We are honored to be recognized by the Council of Corporate Responsibility for our dedication and actions toward being a good corporate steward," said Kathryn V. Marinello, Hertz president and chief executive officer. "We're proud to continue our commitment to deliver smart mobility and sustainability solutions at work, in the community and on the road."
In addition to the CR Champion Award, Hertz's corporate cafeteria, located at its world headquarters, was recently re-certified by the Green Restaurant Association as a 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant®. The cafeteria is the only 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant in Florida and one of only three 4-Star Certified Green Restaurant corporate cafeterias in the world. With the steps the company has taken to earn the certification, Hertz can save 242,548 gallons of water, divert more than 25,170 pounds of waste and save 182,738 kWh of electricity each year.
Hertz also recently received two GreeningATL Excellence Awards from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, taking top honors in the categories of Waste Management and Product Innovation. The annual GreeningATL awards were created to recognize aerotropolis community members and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership by promoting and implementing measures to advance sustainability, specifically through environmentally based achievements.
