ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, American Trucking Associations recognized Herschel Evans, a professional truck driver with Holland and an America's Road Team Captain, with the first ever Trucking Cares Foundation Premier Achievement Award.
"Trucking Cares Foundation is also about recognizing the contributions many of you make without any notice or fanfare, people who are all about giving back," said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. "Herschel has accumulated three million accident-free miles, he was awarded CVSA's 2018 International Driver Excellence Award. He is a six-time competitor at National Truck Driver Championships, and just last year he was Georgia's Grand Champion. Yet today, we recognize Herschel for something more… for going that extra mile to make a difference in the lives of others."
In 2015, Evans started a truck rodeo – the Safety Drive for a Cure – a safety and skills competition benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The event has since grown, raising more than $30,000 and featuring 116 drivers from 21 states last year.
In addition, Evans is also active with the Convoy of Care, helping deliver critical supplies to families affected by major natural disasters – from flooding in Louisiana and Texas to recent hurricanes in Florida and North Carolina.
"Herschel embodies the spirit we wanted to celebrate when we launched the Trucking Cares Foundation last year, and because of that, we are thrilled to present him with this first-ever award, and a $5,000 donation from the Foundation to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in his name," said Phil Byrd, president and CEO of Bulldog Hiway Express and chairman of the Trucking Cares Foundation.
"The foundation could not have made a better choice for their first recipient. Herschel exemplifies all the best in our industry and in our state. He is professional, selfless and kind," said Ed Crowell, president and CEO of the Georgia Motor Truck Association. "He is always stepping up to assist, whether is helping kids battle cancer or families recover from disaster, Herschel can be found quietly, tirelessly working on the front lines."
