INDIANAPOLIS, March 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Herff Jones, a dynamic portfolio of brands that create a culture of engagement and achievement in schools through motivational, educational and graduation products and services, cheerleading programs and sporting goods, today announced its StrataLogica iPad application was nominated for two South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Awards.
The SXSW Interactive Awards recognize the "best innovators, creators and trend-setters of the online world." Herff Jones | Nystrom's StrataLogica iPad app was one of the finalists in the SXSW People's Choice Award.
Top innovators across a number of digital platforms are selected for the SXSW Interactive Awards, from websites to mobile apps. Chosen projects stretch the imagination and introduce users to the greatest advances in the field. With 15 categories and five finalists in each category, the finalists represent the most creative and innovative projects of the year.
The StrataLogica iPad app was nominated in the Educational Resource category and for the SXSW People's Choice Award. The results of the online voting on March 11 earned StrataLogica second place out of 75 finalists.
"The team at Herff Jones | Nystrom has taken innovation to the next level through the development of the StrataLogica iPad app," said Tom Tanton, Herff Jones President. "This unique form of learning engages students as they discover the world in which they live. I am very pleased that the app earned such recognition among the many interactive experiences represented at SXSW."
"The entire StrataLogica team—from cartographers and editors, developers, and marketers—was tremendously honored to be a finalist for the SXSW Interactive Award," said Don Rescigno, VP of Marketing & Product Development at Herff Jones | Nystrom. "SXSW has a history of recognizing amazing achievements in technology so having StrataLogica named as a finalist makes our team very proud."
StrataLogica, powered by Google Earth, uses multilayered maps and e-book atlases to let educators and students be hands-on in an environment where they can create, collaborate and share content all on one platform. According to Joan Pederson, Director of Product Development at Herff Jones | Nystrom, StrataLogica is a more effective way to help students learn. "The interactivity is something that provides new surprises and new opportunities every time you login to StrataLogica."
The recent release of the free StrataLogica iPad app has made it possible for educators to take learning one step further. "Our history has been built upon hands-on learning," Rescigno says, "Studies overwhelmingly show that hands-on learning is very effective and we see the iPad app as the next iteration of this."
