Flights between Boston and Santiago or Portland are on sale now at www.jetblue.com, with fares to Portland as low as $169 (a) each way for travel booked by Friday, Feb. 11. Travel must take place June 1 – June 29, 2011.
With these route additions, JetBlue will serve a total of 42 nonstop destinations, more than double the next largest carrier. The value airline will also begin weekly winter service to Providenciales, in the Turks & Caicos Islands, its 39th destination, on Feb. 19 and four daily flights from Logan to Newark, destination number 40, will begin May 4. Summer service to Oakland, Calif. will also resume in May.
"Our continued growth and commitment to Boston further solidifies our position as the city's leading carrier," said Dave Clark, director of network planning for JetBlue. "We will remain focused on providing more schedule options and more destinations for Bostonians, along with the same great product and service they've come to expect."
"JetBlue's new service to Santiago in the Dominican Republic is the 30th international destination at Logan Airport," Massport Director of Aviation Ed Freni said. "The airline's service to Portland, Oregon represents another low cost service offered at Logan. JetBlue now offers 42 destinations out of Boston, more than any other carrier. This means more choices for the traveling public."
"This is great news for PDX travelers, who make 150,000 trips every year between Portland and Boston," said David Zielke, Port of Portland general manager of air service development. "We appreciate JetBlue's continued commitment to our community, including existing routes to both New York and Long Beach, Calif."
"With JetBlue's new Boston to Santiago de los Caballero's route, the relationships between the airline and its established partners at Cibao International Airport strengthen. We will now be able to satisfy the demand of the numerous Dominicans residing in Boston and its surrounding areas to come visit their families in the Cibao region and to further strengthen our commercial ties to this region," said engineer Felix Garcia Castellanos, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Cibao International Airport. "This is another great choice on JetBlue's behalf which joins their already successful New York and Santiago operations. The Cibao International Airport is overjoyed by the decision and congratulates JetBlue for the start of this direct service. We are thankful the demand was considered, and now Dominicans and visitors alike will be able to travel with greater ease."
Over the last two years, JetBlue has enjoyed exponential growth in Boston, with a 30% increase in daily departures in the summer of 2010 versus 2009 and an additional 30% growth expected this year as the airline increases from 75 flights per day last year to approximately 100 flights per day in the summer of 2011. In addition to serving many business destinations such as Chicago, Washington D.C., and Raleigh, JetBlue also offers the most flights from Boston to Florida, the Caribbean and the West Coast.
