DENVER, Nov. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has recognized Hensel Phelps with the Design-Build Project of the Year award for the Benjamin P. Grogan and Jerry L. Dove Federal Building in Miramar, Florida. Hensel Phelps took home a total of five awards for this project at the DBIA National Awards dinner, including a National Award of Merit, National Award of Excellence (Federal, County, State, Municipal), Excellence in Process, Excellence in Design (Architecture) and the aforementioned Project of the Year.
As a 2015 National Award of Merit winner in the Federal, County, State, Municipal category, this building was eligible for consideration for the Project of the Year award, the DBIA's highest honor. Award recipients must demonstrate effective schedule and cost performance and exemplify the principles of effective processes, interdisciplinary teamwork, problem-solving, and excellence in design.
"To win a National Design-Build Project/Team Award, projects must not only achieve budget and schedule goals, but also demonstrate advanced and innovative application of design-build best practices," said Lisa Washington, CAE, and Executive Director/CEO of DBIA. "This year's winning project exemplifies Design-Build Done Right in their design-build process, excellence in design, and extraordinary teaming performance. The jury's difficulty in choosing winners demonstrates how much design-build expertise has expanded since we started the awards program in 1996."
Hensel Phelps completed this 383,000-square-foot project for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in December 2014, consolidating 12 South Florida federal agency offices into one four-building campus environment near the Everglades. This project included enhanced security specifications, an enclosed parking structure, and multiple buildings on a 20-acre site. It was designed and built to be LEED Platinum Core and Shell (C&S) certified, LEED Gold Commercial Interiors (CI) certified, and Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) Two Star certified.
Hensel Phelps would like to thank their entire project team, including GSA, Jacobs, Gensler, Krueck+Sexton, Atkins, Walter P. Moore, Syska Hennessy, Enclos, John J. Kirlin and M.C. Dean.
