Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital turns 90, Receives Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals Award for Second Straight Year
WYANDOTTE, Mich., Feb. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for its 90th year, Henry Ford Wyandotte is the region's only hospital to receive the Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals distinction.
Of the nation's 4,400 hospitals, only 79 have been awarded this honor two years in a row.
Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, identifies America's 100 Best Hospitals as having the lowest complication and mortality rates. According to Healthgrades, award recipients have a 26.5 percent lower risk-adjusted, in-hospital mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions. This distinction places Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital among the top 2% of hospitals across the country for its consistent, year-after-year superior clinical performance. If all other hospitals had performed at the level of America's 100 Best Hospitals, 170,705 lives could potentially have been saved.
Only hospitals that have received Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for the past four consecutive years can be considered for an America's 100 Best designation. Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital has received the clinical excellence award the last five.
"Our analysis shows that there is tremendous variation in care, so it's important for consumers to carefully research and choose a hospital," Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades, says. "We commend the recipients of the America's 100 Best Hospitals Award for delivering exceptional clinical outcomes that help them stand out from their peers in terms of overall clinical performance."
Denise Brooks-Williams, president and CEO, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, announced the award to employees today at the hospital. She also recognized the milestone birthday, an occasion that will be celebrated in June, the month the hospital was dedicated 90 years ago. The hospital opened in February 1926.
"This award is a reflection of the important work our nurses, physicians and employees do every day. It speaks to our ongoing commitment to provide the highest quality care to our patients," says Brooks-Williams. "The fact that the announcement coincides with our 90th year is another great reason to celebrate."
