Hemingway African Gallery & Safaris Officially Opens Doors in Tribeca

NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Hemingway African Gallery & Safaris, the leading wholesale importer of fine African art and home furnishings, officially opened its doors at 88 Leonard Street, a Jamestown property in Tribeca. Offering a wide ranging collection of African antiques, decorative arts and home furnishings, alongside safari travel planning expertise and wildlife education, the new gallery goes beyond traditional retail by serving as a center for dialogue focused on African culture and wildlife conservation.

The opening of Hemingway African Gallery & Safaris in a Jamestown property extends the real estate management firm's commitment to fostering multigenerational, family-owned businesses, and incubating innovative, one-of-a-kind retail concepts. The art and travel hybrid brings to Tribeca a truly differentiated retail experience that will delight neighborhood residents and visitors with its unique offerings and authentic commitment to spreading awareness of African culture and wildlife protection.

The gallery celebrated the new location with a grand opening event last month hosted by Co-Founder Brian Gaisford, along with his daughter Logan Gaisford, Vice President and Curator for the gallery, and son Tuck Gaisford, Managing Partner and Guide of Safaris. Recently returning from an extended safari and art sourcing trip, Brian spoke to guests about his most recent experiences across the continent and highlighted the important work of South Africa's National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), an organization the event benefited. More than 50 of Hemingway's longtime clients attended the event, enjoying a customized array of appetizers catered by Last Food.

Hemingway African Gallery & Safari's collection is ethically sourced, often directly from artisans across the continent, and ranges from antique to decorative. Founded in 1975 by Gaisford and Co-Founder Gregory Hemingway and operating for 45 years within the Manhattan Arts and Antiques Center, the gallery has become a preferred source for African art collectors, interior decorators, and set designers across the country. The new location provides visitors with authoritative expertise on the origins and pedigree of antique African masks, tapestries, home furnishings, sculptures, and many more artifacts.

The gallery will kick off its ongoing series of conservation meetings on November 7, 2019 with a special presentation by Kathi Lynn Austin, a former United Nations arms trafficking expert and current founder and executive director of the Conflict Awareness Project. Kathi will detail her project, "Follow the Guns, Save a Species," and how her approach helps bring justice to organized rhino poaching.
