SEATTLE, Feb. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Imagine you're in third grade, sitting at your desk as the teacher explains a division problem. But you can't think about the best way to divide 15 apples among 10 of your friends. You're too worried about when your next meal will be and where it will come from.
According to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, nearly 40,000 students across Washington State are homeless. That's 40,000 students who are provided school meals during the week, and might go without food over the weekend.
For the Tukwila School District, there is now a way for homeless students to get weekend meals. StillWaters: Services for Families in Transition is a Tukwila-based nonprofit currently working with the district to provide homeless students with weekend meals that they might otherwise go without. The Program provides 220 students in the Tukwila School District with weekend meals.
An auction will be held to raise money to continue providing students with weekend meals. Tickets for the auction go on sale February 9, 2018. Tickets can be purchased online until March 2. Businesses, like Inspirus Credit Union, can sponsor the auction by emailing StillWaters.
