Helping Hand for Relief and Development Surpasses $3.5 Million Aid Target for Rohingya
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) continues to work alongside its vetted partner NGOs inside Burma and Bangladesh to provide humanitarian assistance to the persecuted Rohingya. HHRD's "Burma Relief Fund", launched in 2012, continues to aid through programs such as In-Kind Gifts, Seasonal, Orphan Support, Health Care, Water for Life, Education Support and Shelter Homes. HHRD surpassed its target to raise $3.5 million in 2018 by raising over $4 million in Rohingya Refugee Relief to provide long term rehabilitation to over 30,000 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and refugees.

HHRD has established a regional office in Yangon, the capitol city of Myanmar, where they continue to provide relief through local partner NGO Share Mercy and Treasure Land Development Association (TLDA) and in Bangladesh with Small Kindness Bangladesh (SKB) and Social Agency for Welfare and Advancement in Bangladesh (SAWAB); all with complete cooperation and approvals from their respective governmental authorities.

At present, HHRD is supporting 400 orphans inside Myanmar, including the Rohingya inhabited Sittwe in the Rakhine State. HHRD, through SKB has been sponsoring one Rohingya Child Care Center for the past year which has helped in assisting 200 children, Ukhya Camp in Cox's Bazar. This Child Care Center is a full day non-formal school held for six days, from early morning until the evening. In October 2018, four more Child Care Centers were added, making it a total of 5 centers with 1,000 children being cared for. HHRD, in partnership with SKB, has also built 1,300 shelter homes which will help 7,800 people in Balukhali, Jamtoli, & Palongkhali in Cox's Bazar. These two room plus balcony shelter homes are made with bamboo and tarpaulin along with solar powered electric fixtures such as fans, bulbs, etc. A family of up to 6 people can live in this home, saving them from elements such as weather and insects. HHRD, through SKB, has been sponsoring two Rohingya Family Healthcare Clinic in Hakim Para, Thankhali, Ukhya, Cox's Bazar with Ambulance Service. One doctor, two nurses, and one pharmacists operate each of these basic clinics, which hold a well-stocked pharmacy and operates 315 days a year, while serving 73,000 patients. More than 40 different types of illnesses have been discovered at this clinic.
HHRD is been on the forefront of emergency relief in that region since the devastating Tsunami of 2004 where over 230,000 people died to the recent earthquake and Tsunami where death toll exceeded 2000.
As per United Nations, unfolding before our eyes is the 'ethnic' cleansing of Rohingya Muslims and therefore, making it the fastest growing refugee crisis of our lifetime. There are an estimated 1 million Rohingya living in Myanmar, and approximately the same number in Cox's Bazar Bangladesh, 150,000 in Malaysia, 1,000 in Indonesia, and in many other countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Pakistan, India, and Thailand.
