Helping educators find the right Open Educational Resources - new help from Microsoft and OpenEd.com
LOS GATOS, Calif., Feb. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenEd.com, the leading K-12 resource library, announced that they are supporting Microsoft in a new open source app, "Open Education Search App," announced today at the US Department of Education's #GoOpen Exchange. It will be available momentarily for all districts and teachers to use, for free.
There are a lot of great open educational resources, in the Learning Registry and elsewhere. The app enables teachers to quickly identify the most effective resource for any given objective and share it with their students in any Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) compliant Learning Management System. The Open Education Search app will be available for download shortly on EduAppCenter.com.
"Teachers work hard, and we are excited that we can provide technology to help them quickly find the best resources for their students. Being able to work with Microsoft to provide this experience for free to all and showcase it at the Department of Education's #GoOpen Exchange is really the icing on the cake for us," said Ron Drabkin, VP of Marketing at OpenEd.com.
The Open Education Search App does the following:
- Organizes K-12 OER resources in one place, and makes them easily discoverable by subject, grade, topic or even individual standard (Common Core, NGSS, Texas TEKS, and more)
- Sorts online resources by their effectiveness
- Allows teachers assign these resources into any LTI compliant Learning Management System with a couple of clicks. Quizzes are automatically graded with scores placed into the gradebook.
"We're excited to help connect teachers to freely available resources via Docs.com and with our LTI app. Teachers who I talk with about the app are excited about spending less time searching for great classroom content and more time with their students," said Jim Federico, Product Manager at Microsoft.
