Help the VacationMyrtleBeach.com Resorts Support Backpack Buddies to Feed Area Children

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., March 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The VacationMyrtleBeach.com Resort Group has taken an initiative this spring to support Help4Kids and their Backpack Buddies program, a Myrtle Beach and Horry County based program that aims to assist children in need.  Each week the Backpack Buddies program provides a package of food for over 2,000 area children to take home on Friday so that they have food to eat over the weekend.  The VacationMyrtleBeach.com Resorts campaign to support the Backpack Buddies program that will run this March and April, and each of the 13 oceanfront resorts will allow guests the opportunity to make a small donation at check in or at the time of booking and the VacationMyrtleBeach.com Resorts will make a matching contribution.

Help4Kids Executive Director Barb Mains established the organization in 1989 to provide basic necessities to the children of the working poor in Horry County and later introduced the Backpack Buddies program in 2004. 

Mains said, "We have been very fortunate to have the community support our program, but in these difficult economic times we've had more children with need in our area and less individuals and businesses who are able to contribute to our program.  We are excited to have the Vacation Myrtle Beach resort group running the campaign to help raise both funds and awareness for our program."  The Backpack Buddies program and the Help4Kids organization is made up completely of volunteers.

The VacationMyrtleBeach.com resorts are hoping to help the Backpack Buddies reach every child in need.

Help4Kids was established in 1989 to provide basic necessities to the children of the working poor in Horry County. Children don't get to choose the world into which they are born. If it's a world filled with poverty neglect and or abuse of any kind it is the children who suffer.  Help4Kids believes going to school prepared will help them learn and be better able to finish school and go beyond the cycle of poverty into which they were born. The children we serve will not be hungry on weekends when school is out and they have no access to breakfast and lunch.
