PITTSBURGH, October 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Most people don't know they are in danger of becoming infected. But every time you leave electronics plugged in that aren't in use, consumers are feeding the energy zombies. Direct Energy, North America's largest energy and energy-services related company, wants to help people fight the energy zombies, and give them the tools they need to protect themselves from needlessly high energy bills.

Today they are launching a series of consumer education videos, featuring Chunk and Rita Shambles, Energy Zombies. The videos follow the zombie couple as they shamble around the house, leaving the fridge door open, changing the thermostat without regard to their usage, and generally mindlessly eating away at their energy bill.
"We are always looking for unique ways to educate consumers on the small, cost effective measure they can take to help them save energy and money during the cold winter months," says Cory Byzewski, Vice President of Direct Energy. "We also wanted to do it on a social platform, so customers can interact with each other, share tips with each other, and help support each other as they find creative ways to reduce their own energy consumption."
The videos are being supported by tips on the Direct Energy blog, and on the Direct Energy Facebook page. One video will launch every week until all five have been distributed.
