WINCHESTER, Calif., Sept. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Captain Joe McClain, USN (Retired) has been named CEO of Help Hospitalized Veterans, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of America's veterans and military personnel.
McClain, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, is a career naval officer with multiple deployments flying the carrier-based S-3B Viking aircraft. He served as Commodore, Sea Control Wing Atlantic and Commanding Officer of the "Blue Wolves" of Sea Control Squadron 35 (VS-35). He was also Secretary of the Navy's liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Following his 29-year career in the U.S. Navy, McClain was appointed president of the Beer Institute, the prestigious trade association that represents the U.S. brewing and beer-importing industry.
"Joe has a strong track record and just the right credentials to help lead Help Hospitalized Veterans" said the Honorable John M. Meagher, chairman of the HHV board of directors. "As a veteran himself, Joe understands the importance and value in helping those who have given so much to our country."
"Coming from a family with a long tradition of military service and now with a son on active duty, I'm honored to be chosen to lead HHV, with its proven track record as the leading provider of therapeutic experiences," said McClain. "The lessons I learned flying for the Navy will hold me in good stead as I take the helm of this great organization: A focus on 'mission first' and the smart application of best practices will help ensure that the generosity of our donors continues to enrich the lives of veterans, military members and their families in the most effective and cost efficient manner."
For more than 40 years, HHV, a nonprofit organization founded during the Vietnam War, has supplied therapeutic arts-and-crafts kits free of charge to veterans, military personnel and their families. The kits often become a part of the patient's treatment plan, giving patients a creative outlet for stress and boredom and a way to rebuild their confidence and self-esteem. Since 1971, Help Hospitalized Veterans has distributed more than 29 million woodworking, leather, modeling, needlecraft and other kits.
McClain assumed his role as CEO of HHV on September 3, 2015.
