Heisman Trophy Winner Joins EvoShield Mission To Support Athletes With Revolutionary Protective Gear
Robert Griffin III to Quarterback EvoShield's Football Protective Line
ATHENS, Ga., May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With little fanfare, a revolutionary line of protective gear has been steadily safeguarding some of the biggest names in sports. EvoShield has amassed a legion of supporters, and the latest football star to share his secret armor is none other than 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, the No. 2 overall selection in last month's NFL draft.
Already a mainstay in Major League Baseball, EvoShield's custom-fit, moldable protective gear is rapidly becoming the new standard in safety for NFL and NCAA football teams.
The company today announced a partnership with Griffin – the former Baylor quarterback affectionately known as RG3 – to promote the benefits of EvoShield's innovative products.
EvoShield's unique "Gel-to-Shell" fitting process allows athletes to mold their own lightweight protective equipment, for a custom fit to their body. The Shields disperse energy better than traditional foam and plastic gear, allowing athletes to get the protection they need without sacrificing their performance.
Beginning in 2007 with University of Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford – a No. 1 NFL draft pick who continues to wear EvoShield as a professional – EvoShield has been providing unsurpassed on-field protection to a legion of football standouts, including Michael Vick, Kevin Kolb, Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas and Colt McCoy.
"It's an honor to be the face of EvoShield protection for football," said Griffin, who's been wearing EvoShield's products since his freshman year at Baylor. "Spreading the news about a product that I truly believe in – not just something that was thrown on me where they said, 'Hey, wear this and say you like it.' It's something that I've gone through trials and tribulations with and it's protected me. I know by getting the word out to young kids, to those playing football, and to those who have medical conditions and just need protection, that it'll have a positive impact on them, too. That's what I'm excited about – just the fact that I can go out there and have my voice heard in a way that can protect millions." Griffin was drafted by the NFL's Washington Redskins in late April.
More than 3.5 million children under age 14 receive medical treatment for sports-related trauma every year, according to Safe Kids USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating preventable childhood injuries – the leading cause of death and disability for youths ages 1 to 14. Additionally, more than 30,000 high school athletes are treated for avoidable injuries each year.
"Our products are designed to protect athletes of all ages, and at all levels – not just professional or college athletes," said Bob Pinckney, EvoShield CEO. "Our passion is protection and we're becoming the leading choice across many sports – football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, hockey, to name a few."
Robert Griffin III joins an EvoShield team that includes MLB players Troy Tulowitzki and Gordon Beckham, as well as NHL stars Shane Doan and Blake Geoffrion. EvoShield products are sold nationally in a variety of retail outlets. For more information visit www.evoshield.com.
