Heffernan Insurance Brokers Launches Bikes at Work Pilot Program

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Heffernan Insurance Brokers, one of the largest full-service, independent insurance brokerage firms in the United States, recently launched a bike program as part of its Wellness@Work effort.  The firm now has a number of bicycles available to employees during office hours in its Walnut Creek headquarters and Menlo Park branch. If successful, the program will be rolled out to the company's other branch offices.

The program was launched with assistance from Sports Basement, who customized the discounted bikes for the company's needs and donated the time to assemble them.

"It's one more way to keep our employees happy, healthy and stress free. We also want to thank Sports Basement for being the ideal partners in making this program happen."

The bike program coincides with a number of bike outings sponsored by the company in recent months. As a fitness and team building activity, several departments participated in mountain bike outings, which included instruction sessions on safe biking and guided rides.

As part of Heffernan Insurance Brokers' Wellness@Work program, in coming months the company will be sponsoring a team for the Nike Women's half marathon.  Also, in April 2013 the company began a gym subsidy program, where qualified employees can earn up to $50/month subsidy toward a gym membership.  The subsidy is offered to employees who agree to participate in an annual Health Risk Assessment and physical exam as part of the company's preventative wellness effort.
