Heffernan Earns Distinguished Service Award

BOSTON, July 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Deborah Heffernan, broker-owner of Avenue 3 Real Estate in Cambridge, was presented with the Andrew F. Hickey Distinguished Service Award at the Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® (GBAR) Annual Awards Brunch held on June 25 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown.

Established in 2006, the Andrew F. Hickey Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to one local REALTOR® for his or her lengthy and dedicated service to GBAR and the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB).  Recipients must hold membership in GBAR for a minimum of 15 years and are recognized as prominent and effective leaders within the REALTOR® association, real estate industry and their local community.

Heffernan, a REALTOR® since 1984 and a past President of GBAR,  has served on no less than two dozen local, state and national committees within the REALTOR® Association, chairing seven of them. Deborah played a major role in launching the GBREB Scholarship Fund in 2011, and participated in efforts to re-write the state's real estate laws regulating agency practice in the early 2000s. Heffernan has been active in efforts to enforce compliance with the association's membership policies, contributes annually to the land trust and local housing corporation in her community, and has helped champion the Association's Public Policy Agenda as a REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Major Investor and through regular participation in REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill. Deborah is the current Greater Boston Region Vice President to the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS®.
