Heart Failure Society of America Announces New Editor-in-Chief
Paul J. Hauptman, MD is appointed to lead the Journal of Cardiac Failure
BETHESDA, Md., Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) has announced that Paul J. Hauptman, MD has been named the next Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cardiac Failure (JCF). Dr. Hauptman was selected after an extensive national search; review by the HFSA Publications Committee and approval by the HFSA Executive Council. Dr. Hauptman will assume full duties in January 2015. He takes over from Gary Francis, MD following a productive five-year term.
An experienced healthcare leader, Dr. Hauptman comes to the Journal with a background in clinical and outcomes research in heart failure. He was previously Associate Editor at the European Journal of Heart Failure and at Circulation: Heart Failure. His work reflects a long-standing interest in understanding clinical decision-making and practice patterns. As a clinical trialist, he has been an investigator in multiple trials for more than twenty years and has served on clinical events committees and steering committees for numerous trials. He first authored a consensus document for the HFSA on the heart failure clinic and for many years has reviewed manuscripts for and published in the Journal.
Dr. Hauptman graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Chemistry and received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College. His post-graduate training in cardiology took place at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital. He currently serves as a Professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Dean of Clinical and Translational Research at Saint Louis University School of Medicine where he also directs the Clinical Trials Office.
A new team of Associate Editors has been chosen by Dr. Hauptman and he has appointed Michael Rich MD, Professor of Medicine at Washington University as Senior Associate Editor. They will infuse new ideas and energy into the JCF, building on the successful work of Dr. Francis. The Journal of Cardiac Failure, founded in 1994 as the first journal in the heart failure discipline is well-respected and has held a steady impact factor at a time of increasing competition from new journals dedicated to heart failure. The JCF recently unveiled a newly designed cover and Dr. Hauptman will be working closely with the publisher and HFSA staff to make continued improvements and seek quality manuscripts from authors representing multi-disciplinary clinicians and researchers.
