WASHINGTON, May 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Staying healthy and injury-free as we age is a goal we all share. But how do you do it?
Consider the facts: seniors have suffered about five million medically-treated consumer product-related injuries each year since 2007. The majority of consumer product-related deaths involve seniors 65 and older.
The number, rate and costs of serious consumer product-related injuries to seniors have risen along with the size of the population of older adults in the U.S.
At the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), we want to reduce the risks for seniors.
That's why we are taking part in the 2015 Healthy Aging Summit on July 27-28 in Washington, D.C. at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The Summit is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and the American College of Preventive Medicine. We invite you to attend too!
The goal of the Summit is to explore the science of healthy aging, the role of prevention and preventive services, and identify policy gaps that can be addressed to help improve the quality of life for older Americans.
CPSC is holding a "Consumer Product Listening Session" during the Summit on the best strategies to reduce seniors' risks from consumer products. CPSC's Listening Session is on July 27 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. We invite you to share your comments during this session. You have to be registered for the Healthy Aging Summit to participate in our Listening Session. Speakers are limited to three minutes each and speaking at the Listening Session is on a first come, first served basis.
