SAN FRANCISCO, April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Council of Patient Information and Education (NCPIE), a nonprofit coalition formed to improve the information exchange of healthcare between patients and providers, has announced the election of Healthline Media, Inc. to its Board of Directors.
Healthline's Senior Medical Director of Content, Shirley Lin, RN, BSN, will fill the company's board member position, serving a three-year term in the Business Organization category within the NCPIE Board. Healthline now serves the mission of the NCPIE Board of Directors along with such organizations as the Alliance for Aging Research, American Academy of Physician Assistants, American Heart Association, American Medical Association, American Pharmacists Association, National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation, National Consumers League and the National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. along with other committed organizations dedicated to advancing consumer awareness, knowledge and safety.
"We are honored to become an active participant with NCPIE," says Healthline's Lin. "We are at a critical time in patient information wherein self-care decisions are at an all-time high while doctor visits and overall consumer trust is at a low—especially amongst Millennials. Effectively reaching the right people at the right time with the right knowledge on what is therapeutically right for them is critical."
"Being appointed to the NCPIE Board of Directors and joining a group of leaders with shared values, commitment and dedication is both humbling and energizing for us," says Healthline CEO David Kopp. "Today we have to be able to speak to all ages, ethnicities and cultural beliefs in ways that bring both science and common sense to the forefront. We believe NCPIE and its Board of Directors will help Healthline to better serve our monthly audience of over 50 million health information seekers as well as help NCPIE and its members to extend their reach and impact."
The values of NCPIE are twofold: (1) To represent a wide spectrum of organizations serving the public health through educational and advocacy programs that encourage the appropriate use of medicines, in order to achieve intended outcomes and improve public health and (2) To stimulate programs to ensure that medicine information is useful and scientifically accurate in whatever form and for whatever audience it is delivered.
