ORLANDO, Fla., March 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthGrid today announced that it has enabled the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Blue ButtonSM application programming interface (API) for the 10.25 million patient users across the CareNotify™ platform.
The Blue Button integration announcement reinforces HealthGrid's commitment to develop innovative solutions that improve patient engagement, satisfaction, and outcomes and delivers measurable ROI for providers transitioning to value-based care.
"The integration of Blue Button into our patient engagement platform offers our hospital, health system and ambulatory care clients, the ability to see a holistic view of their Medicare patients," said HealthGrid CEO Raj Toleti. "Pairing our existing tool set with Blue Button API offers an innovative way for our clients to gain clinical and financial insights from claims data and transform them into actionable messages for patients. This integration has the power to further increase patient satisfaction, quality, and revenue, while capturing services not currently performed in network. At the same time, it will empower our clients with an entirely new level of information to effectively run their business."
CMS recently published a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) service that will enable an estimated 53 million fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries to connect apps such as CareNotify to their MyMedicare.gov accounts and gain access to adjudicated claims (Parts A, B, D).
"Today's launch represents an important milestone in the movement to help consumers and the caregivers they trust to freely connect their health data to apps like CareNotify that are designed to help them make sense of it," said Aneesh Chopra, President of CareJourney and former U.S. CTO under President Obama. "Far too many beneficiaries miss the opportunity to work with their primary care doctor on a care plan to stay healthy, or to review complicated discharge instructions when they transition from a hospital or nursing home - services that are covered as Medicare benefits and can improve their health while avoiding costly preventable services."
The Blue Button FHIR service facilitates interoperability across legacy health care systems and makes it easy to share personal health information (PHI) with patients and providers on computers, tablets, and cellphones, while allowing third-party application developers to integrate medical applications with existing systems.
Blue Button is a registered service mark owned by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, of which CMS is a part.
