HealthGrades Names Franklin Hospital Best of Long Island for Joint Replacement Surgery
VALLEY STREAM, N.Y., Oct. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Franklin Hospital is ranked the best on Long Island for joint replacement outcomes according to the 2011 Healthcare Consumerism and Hospital Quality in America report released today by HealthGrades, the nation's leading independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings. The ratings place Franklin as best on Long Island for a second consecutive year.
Franklin Hospital is also rated highest, at 5-stars, for total knee replacement for a second consecutive year, meaning that patients experience on average a 73% lower risk of mortality and 63% lower risk of complication compared to 1-star hospitals. "Ranking among the best in joint replacement outcomes demonstrates Franklin Hospital's commitment to quality care and patient satisfaction," said Joseph Manopella, executive director. "We are proud of our skilled staff and their dedication to continually improve the scope and quality of our orthopedic programs and services."
Franklin's Center for Surgical Specialties is part of the North Shore-LIJ Orthopaedic Institute, combining the orthopedic programs of several facilities to provide state-of-the-art care for the entire spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders. The Center's 22 surgeons, more than half of whom perform joint replacements, treat patients on a complete care continuum from diagnosis through rehabilitation. "Our surgeons and staff help hundreds of patients with complex joint conditions get back on their feet every year," said Mr. Manopella. "By fully supporting HealthGrade's ratings, our staff in turn allows the community to recognize our facility as a top-notch choice for care."
Consumer trends indicate that growing numbers of potential patients choose hospitals based on high quality ratings over familiarity. "Patients today have a wide array of options when it comes to choosing a healthcare provider," said Kerry Hicks, HealthGrades chief executive officer. "At HealthGrades, we are proud to have led the way for empowering patient choice based on objective clinical outcomes and access to actionable quality measures.
