SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Gorilla, a leader in clinical data APIs, today announced that they have successfully connected more than a dozen healthcare organizations to the CommonWell Health Alliance® network. Health Gorilla is the first live CommonWell Connector™, which enables their clients to connect with more than 15,000 participating provider sites within the CommonWell nationwide network. Health Gorilla's FHIR-based API allows digital health developers to retrieve comprehensive clinical data from participating hospitals and clinics to facilitate patient care without having to do direct integrations.
Among the newly connected organizations are DrChrono, MDPortals and WellVia. DrChrono is one of the largest EMR and technology platforms among medical practices. MDPortals provides health systems with a complete longitudinal health record to physicians and proactively flags critical care updates. WellVia connects patients to board-certified physicians and behavioral health specialists through phone, mobile devices, and video.
"Our team has had a long-standing and synergistic partnership with Health Gorilla," said Daniel Kivatinos, COO & Co-founder of DrChrono. "We have been enabling providers not only with a revolutionary EHR, but with Health Gorilla we have enabled providers across the healthcare industry to any lab of their choice. We are excited to take our partnership to the next level, enabling providers with a direct integration with CommonWell through Health Gorilla."
"With Health Gorilla and CommonWell, we wanted to empower our clients' physician network with the information they need to provide care efficiently and at the highest quality," said Omar Salah, Chief Executive Officer and Founder at MDPortals. "Recently, we received an update from Health Gorilla that a patient, whose next appointment was three months away, had broken his hip. This update allowed one of our providers to re-engage with the patient earlier, adjust the care plan, and notify the broader care team. Without Health Gorilla, there is no easy way to get this critical information in a timely manner."
"To truly improve outcomes for our patients, we need access to the full set of clinical information," said Peyton Reaves, Chief Technology Officer at WellVia. "Accessing CommonWell through Health Gorilla's API removed the burden of technical integration and gives physicians the context they need to provide the highest quality care possible."
"The CommonWell Connector program was created in 2019 to expand the reach and value of the CommonWell network," said Paul L. Wilder, Executive Director of CommonWell Health Alliance. "We applaud Health Gorilla for its leadership as the first CommonWell Connector and for helping increase health data access for providers and patients nationwide."
As announced in early 2019, Health Gorilla was the first CommonWell member to join the CommonWell Connector program, and subsequently, had the first client live via a CommonWell Connector connection. Digital health companies that adopt Health Gorilla's Patient360 API can connect to CommonWell instantly and embed querying functionality into their own products. By using APIs, developers can control their user experience and drive innovative workflows, while accessing the data they need to improve patient care.
