Health Fidelity Collaborates on Bipartisan Policy Center Oversight Framework for Assuring Patient Safety in Healthcare Information Technology
Company extends its commitment to leadership in blending robust innovation with aggressive safety standards
MENLO PARK, Calif., Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Fidelity, a healthcare big data company and technology leader in clinical natural language processing (NLP), was invited by the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) Health Innovation Initiative to share its insight on BPC's new report: An Oversight Framework for Assuring Patient Safety in Healthcare Information Technology. The framework was presented by Former Senate Majority Leader and BPC Health Project Co-Leader Tom Daschle and BPC Health Innovation Director Janet Marchibroda. Farzad Moustashari, National Coordinate for Health Information Technology at the Department of Health and Human Services, also participated in the policy discussion held at BPC in Washington, DC on February 13.
"While innovation is critical to solving global challenges, healthcare requires rigorous and continuous attention to patient safety," said Dan Riskin, M.D., CEO and co-founder of Health Fidelity. "Health Fidelity is honored to be an invited contributor in this important position document, highlighting our commitment to a healthcare system where the patient always comes first."
The report offers principles and recommendations for an oversight framework for patient safety and health IT that is risk-based; reflects shared responsibility among those who develop, implement, and use health IT; is flexible enough to accommodate a rapidly changing health care system, and promotes - not stifles- innovation.
National approaches to healthcare information technology safety and innovation represent evolving areas of policy that heavily influence national efforts in healthcare quality and efficiency improvement. BPC brought together a diverse set of experts and leaders, including those representing clinicians, consumers, health plans, hospitals, and technology companies to inform the development of the framework. Health Fidelity was an invited and named contributor on the report.
In coordination with BPC's Health Project, which is led by Health Project co-leaders and former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Bill Frist (R-TN), the Health Innovation Initiative conducts research and collaborates with experts and stakeholders in health care to develop recommendations that promote innovation as well as the use of IT to drive improvements in the cost, quality, and patient experience of care.
