WASHINGTON, May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Health Data Consortium (HDC), a public-private partnership whose mission is to ignite innovation and foster collaborations using data to improve health and healthcare, announced its keynote speaker lineup for Health Datapalooza™ 2015. Speakers reflect the ongoing convergence of multiple industries and sectors to address the growing use of data to inform healthcare approaches from prevention to diagnosis to treatment and beyond. Keynote speakers include representatives from the federal government, the healthcare industry, the tech world and more, including U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell; Bruce Broussard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Humana; and Aaron Levie, Co-founder of Box. Events will be held from May 31 through June 3 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
"Simply stated, data doesn't work if you can't use it," said HDC Chief Executive Officer Chris Boone, Ph.D., FACHE. "Our driving motivation, and the movement we represent, focuses on the need to put data to work to revolutionize healthcare in the United States. Health Datapalooza is the embodiment of this movement and Health Data Consortium is proud to bring the community together to share their ideas, inventions, and vision for democratizing data so that we as individuals and a society can reap the benefits of health data."
Health Datapalooza, now in its sixth year, attracts more than 2,000 innovators, healthcare industry executives, policymakers, venture capitalists, startups, developers, researchers, providers, consumers and patient advocates who are driving the future use of health data.
"Data is transforming our world by enabling new discoveries, applications, and ideas," said DJ Patil, Deputy Chief Technology Officer for Data Policy and Chief Data Scientist at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. "The work of Health Data Consortium is one example of the private sector helping to identify opportunities for data to deliver value in healthcare and to change the way we live for the better. We look forward to fostering collaborations with individuals and organizations in attendance whose incredible work will help to ensure that the United States remains a leader in technology and innovation."
During Health Datapalooza, HDC convenes the broader stakeholder community to engage in a dialogue on how to overcome barriers to realizing the full potential of health data and most benefit from a connected, efficient and quality healthcare system.
"Health Datapalooza brings together stakeholders to discuss how best to put data to work to advance health and healthcare," said Susan Dentzer, senior policy adviser to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and a member of HDC's Board of Directors. "One critical aspect of these discussions is how federal and state policy can best support the accessibility and wise use of data, and address the needs and concerns of all stakeholders – consumers, patients, clinicians, payers, entrepreneurs and innovators, and others. As chair of HDC's Policy Committee, I'm delighted that the Health Datapalooza is such a rich forum for these discussions."
