Head of FBI's New York Cyber Branch to Join K2 Intelligence
NEW YORK, April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- K2 Intelligence, an industry-leading investigative, compliance and cyber defense services firm, announced today that Austin P. Berglas, Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Cyber Branch in New York, will be joining the firm on May 4, 2015 as Senior Managing Director and head of the U.S. Cyber Investigations and Incident Response practice. He will be based in New York.
Mr. Berglas directed all national security, counterterrorism, and criminal cyber investigations in New York, the largest cyber branch in the FBI. As ASAC he managed investigations for many high profile, joint and international operations including the dismantlement of the Blackshades organization and seizures of numerous TOR based sites including Silk Road and Silk Road 2.0. Most recently he established the Financial Cyber Crimes Task Force, the FBI's first joint effort with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to combat cyber threats and high technology crimes affecting New York City and the nation.
"Austin is a leader in the fight against cybercrime with an impressive track record of success. He brings deep investigative experience in counter intelligence, national security, criminal cyber investigations and incident response to K2 Intelligence," said Jeremy Kroll, president and chief executive officer at K2 Intelligence. "As corporate executives and the board strive to secure, defend and protect their assets against cyber risk, the addition of Austin underscores our commitment to providing clients with the best counsel and resources. We are proud to welcome him to our team."
"Over the last year, we've witnessed attacks that have threatened the security and privacy of major corporations, and their customers and employees across the country, and around the world. The need has never been greater to go above and beyond the minimum cybersecurity compliance requirements to help manage the expanding threat of cyber attacks," said Mr. Berglas. "I am pleased to join a team recognized for its investigative technology and expertise, valued strategic counsel and the highest level of integrity."
"As threats become more complex and invasive it is critical that companies take a holistic approach to cyber defense – securing their systems, training their people and identifying the threats beyond their walls. K2 Intelligence is providing clients with solutions and resources to battle on all those fronts," said Robert Brenner, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Cyber Defense Services for K2 Intelligence.
K2 Intelligence's rapidly growing cyber practice includes cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, technology and investigative experts with diverse backgrounds from both the public and private sector. Those experts help companies prepare for and respond to cyber threats and attacks. The firm has built a reputation for its strategic application of technology and its ability to bring advanced tools, including those formerly only used within law enforcement and the intelligence community, to the private sector.
Earlier this month, American International Group, Inc. (AIG), a leading international insurance organization and the market leader in the underwriting of cyber insurance, endorsed the work of K2 Intelligence by acquiring a minority stake in the firm. In addition, K2 Intelligence and AIG agreed to co-develop products and services that defend, remediate and respond to cyber risk and provide clients with the information they need to protect their enterprise and other stakeholders.
