BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HCTec, a leading provider of healthcare workforce solutions, was awarded today the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives Collaboration Award at the organization's CHIME17 Fall CIO Forum. The award celebrates an innovative workforce solution that increased overall productivity and customer satisfaction, reduced employee turnover by 80 percent and saved $9.2 million to date in operating expenses, with an additional $10 million projected.
This award recognizes collaborative efforts and outcomes by CHIME Foundation firm HCTec and a member healthcare organization, Saint Luke's Health System of Missouri. Like many healthcare systems that recently implemented a new electronic medical record (EMR) system, Saint Luke's struggled with the challenge of simultaneously supporting and optimizing its EMR. Saint Luke's collaborated with HCTec's Managed Services division which provides 24-hour help desk and EMR support delivered by certified and highly-skilled U.S.-based staff in HCTec's Atlanta and Nashville application support centers.
HCTec worked with Saint Luke's to identify inefficiencies that required IT staff to manage projects that didn't always suit their capabilities and interests, thus causing employee dissatisfaction and turnover. Together, the two organizations developed a strategy with two work streams—one at HCTec for general operations and daily support, and a second Saint Luke's team for strategic IT planning and EMR optimization. This strategy categorizes tasks by purpose and streamlines task production to decrease distractions for Saint Luke's internal IT staff.
"Delegating the daily management and associated support tasks of our EMR has enabled Saint Luke's IT team to become agile, flexible and efficient," said Saint Luke's Chief Information Officer (CIO) Debe Gash. "This collaborative effort is a practical strategy for how health systems can partner with outside support to increase efficiency and ultimately deliver better patient outcomes."
"We are honored to be a part of this award and to deliver these tangible cost and efficiency results to Saint Luke's," added HCTec Founder William Bartholomew, who received the award at the CHIME17 Fall CIO Forum.
HCTec CEO Bill Grana concluded, "Our Managed Services business delivers similar outcomes for healthcare organizations across the country that seek outstanding customer service in an intelligent support model. Results like we have seen at Saint Luke's confirm our belief that this is the optimal method to support EMRs going forward."
