HCCA August 12, 2010 Audio/Web Conference: Meaningful Use for Certified Electronic Health Records and Incentive Payments: A Compliance Officer's Perspective
Briefing will provide an overview and discuss the fundamental features of the new rule and offers a Question and Answer Session
MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) announced today it will present - Meaningful Use For Certified EHRs and Incentive Payments: A Compliance Officer's Perspective - an Audio/Web Conference for compliance professionals working in the health care industry, August 12, 2010, 12:00 pm CT. This timely audio/web conference will provide compliance professionals with an overview of the recently released rules for both electronic health record (EHR) standards for certification and the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs and:
- Present the calculation of the incentive payment amounts and payment adjustments for failing to demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology
- Provide an effective and practical method for demonstrating an organization's compliance with the meaningful use criteria
- Promote a responsible set of actions to maintain awareness and measurement of an organization's compliance status
- Share the detailed recommendations for implementation of the meaningful use criteria as analyzed and interpreted by a national workgroup to assist an organization in meeting DHHS' requirements and qualifying for the incentive funding
- Highlight Congress' recognition that new types of technology to communicate, transmit and manage health information were not subject to the patient privacy and security protections mandated under HIPAA, resulting in a broadening of the law
Further, this critical audio/web conference provides attendees the opportunity to ask questions from those who have been deciphering, in detail, the "meaningful use" criteria since their initial release in January 2010.

Background
Under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009, eligible health care professionals and hospitals can qualify for Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments when they adopt certified EHR technology and use it to achieve specified objectives. One of the two regulations released July 13, 2010 defines the "meaningful use" objectives that providers must meet to qualify for the bonus payments, and the other regulation identifies the technical capabilities required for certified EHR technology.
