Hazmat Shippers Look to Avoid Delays and Fines for Violation of 2011 Rules
ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Companies that ship hazardous materials are required by law to ensure that their products are properly classified, described, packaged, marked, and labeled as prescribed by domestic and international standards. As per the U.S. DOT, hazmat training and documentation of training are mandatory requirements for employees who prepare hazardous materials for transport or sign shipping papers. Most carriers like UPS and FedEx will refuse any hazmat shipment offered by a company that cannot provide documentation of hazmat training for all hazmat employees.
In an effort to avoid civil penalties up to $55,000 per day, per violation and criminal penalties up to $110,000 per day, per violation, companies that ship hazardous materials must adopt new procedures and train their employees on the 2011 domestic and international rules, many of which went into effect in January. The most notable changes impact those who ship small quantities of hazmat or "consumer commodities" (examples of which include paints, cosmetics, and small aerosols).
Lion Technology Inc. offers hazmat training workshops to effectively prepare shippers for compliance with the new 2011 rules for shipping hazardous materials by ground, air, and ocean. The workshops feature in-depth discussions of the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR) for ground and the IATA and IMO Dangerous Goods Regulations for air and ocean, with an emphasis on the differences between the regulations and the critical components of hazmat shipping, including classification, shipping papers, package selection, package marking and labeling, and recordkeeping.
Lion's complete Multimodal Hazmat Training program on the DOT (ground), IATA (air), and IMO (ocean) rules will be held in Orlando 2/15-18/2011, Charlotte 3/7-10/2011, and Houston 3/22-25/2011.
Lion's training on the DOT (ground) and IATA (air) rules will be held in Atlanta 2/23-25/2011. Training on the DOT (ground only) rules will be held in Orlando 2/15-16/2011, Atlanta 2/23-24/2011, Charlotte 3/7-8/2011, and Houston 3/22-23/2011.
The fee for the two-day DOT workshop is $695 per person. Each additional day (IATA or IMDG) is $495 per person. Save when you register for all three. Registration includes course reference materials, networking luncheon, certificate of achievement, and one year of follow-up support. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and the workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is highly recommended.
