Hazleton City Hall Saved from Catastrophe
HAZLETON, Pa., Jan. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The quick action of Senator Yudichak and Bill Rinaldi, coupled with the generosity of Kiewit and Invenergy, helped save Hazleton City Hall from a potential nightmare scenario of frozen pipes, structural damage and a possible complete Hazleton government shutdown.
On a bitter cold evening, Hazleton Mayor Jeff Cusat and his City Solicitor made an emergency call to State Senator John Yudichak at his home. The heating system in Hazleton City Hall had failed and with sub-zero temperatures throughout the region, City officials were deeply concerned about the welfare of City workers and the structural integrity of the historic Hazleton City Hall.
Recognizing that a traditional government response could have taken days, or even weeks, Senator Yudichak reached out to Bill Rinaldi, a developer with a rich history of philanthropic efforts on behalf of the City of Hazleton. Senator Yudichak and Mister Rinaldi reached out to Kiewit, the main contractor constructing the Lackawanna Energy Center for energy giant, Invenergy, and secured a portable industrial heater large enough to allow Hazleton City Hall to make it through 22 days straight of frigid temps and remain open until its heating system could be repaired. The original estimate to rent a portable industrial heater was $17,500 per month .
The financial impact alone would have been devastating, including tens of thousands of dollars in repair costs or more, and was prevented by the quick thinking of Senator Yudichak and Mr. Rinaldi and the kindness of Kiewit and Invenergy.
