The Gifts of Imperfection has been one of Hazelden's top-selling books since it was published in 2010. It first hit The New York Times bestseller list on April 14, 2013, at number six in the 'Advice/How To' category. From there, it made the top 10 list seven times before achieving the number one position on November 3, 2013.
"We are extraordinarily proud of Brene's accomplishment," said Nick Motu, publisher and vice president of marketing and communications at Hazelden. "Of the many publishing companies across the nation, only a few achieve the distinction of placing a book on The New York Times bestseller list. To reach the top spot -- and attain the top 10 list multiple times in one year -- is a real affirmation of this great author and our track record of consistently providing exceptional resources."
In The Gifts of Imperfection, Dr. Brene Brown, a research professor and thought leader on the issues of vulnerability, courage and shame, shares ten guideposts on the power of Wholehearted living -- a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness. Based on more than a decade of research, Brown takes the universal concept of shame, or the fear of being unloved, and teaches people how to develop resilience to that fear.
"We estimate that more than 1.5 million lives have been touched with the inspirational and healing messages in this wonderful book," said Alison Vandenberg, director of marketing and consumer business director for Hazelden Publishing. "Her insightful work has enhanced our mission of restoring hope, healing and health to those struggling with addiction and closely related issues, and Hazelden is extremely grateful to Brene and all the people who helped make this book a tremendous success."
