Haynes and Boone Mourns the Passing of Houston Partner George (Guy) Young III

HOUSTON, April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Our firm mourns the passing of friend and partner, George (Guy) Young III, who died suddenly Saturday. He was 59.

Guy will be remembered as a mentor to many, a special father and a superb lawyer. He arrived at Haynes and Boone in 1999 and was integral in expanding the firm's energy capital markets practice into one of the best in the U.S.

"Guy was one of the Houston legal community's standout corporate attorneys, equally adept at the practice of law and advising clients on matters of utmost importance to their business," said Managing Partner Tim Powers. Fellow Houston Partner Bill Nelson, who followed Guy to the firm from Butler & Binion, remembers him as an outstanding person in every way. "He was a good father and a great man -- somebody I always looked up to and respected," Nelson said. "I always said that I just wanted to be half as good as he was. It was like trying to follow Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays."

Longtime client, Fred Callon, chairman and CEO of Callon Petroleum, said he will never forget Guy's skills, professionalism and friendship. Guy had more than 30 years of experience in corporate securities transactions focused principally on Houston's energy industry, including public and private offerings of debt and equity securities, securities laws compliance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and monetization transactions. His practice focused on the representation of energy companies and underwriters engaged in transactions with energy companies.

He graduated with special honors from George Washington University in 1977, then took his J.D. from Tulane University in 1981, magna cum laude.

Haynes and Boone will remember Guy with deep respect and admiration.

He will be dearly missed.
