Harvard University Takes the Research Crown in Thomson Reuters Metrics Mania
Harvard triumphs over a field of 64 schools to knock out Duke in the final matchup for research champion
PHILADELPHIA, April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, today named Harvard University as the champion of Metrics Mania, a unique, annual competition measuring the research impact of American universities participating in the NCAA® college basketball tournament.
As millions of basketball fans watched Duke University win this year's collegiate basketball championship, the world of academia prepared to crown a new champion in scientific research. While Duke reigned supreme on the basketball court, Harvard emerged victorious over the university in the final matchup of Thomson Reuters Metrics Mania, having been identified as the strongest performer in scientific research among the American institutions competing in the NCAA basketball tournament. Duke was also the runner-up in 2014's Metrics Mania competition.
The winners of each of the six rounds of Metrics Mania were determined biweekly from March 16 through April 7 using Thomson Reuters InCitesTM, the leading web-based research analytics platform enabling institutions to measure research output and impact, monitor trends, and benchmark performance against peers at the individual, departmental and global levels.
