Hart Howerton Announces 2017 Travel Fellowship Winners
NEW YORK, April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Architecture and Design Firm, Hart Howerton is pleased to welcome Portia Malik and Molly Taylor to its Travel Fellowship Program for 2017.
Since its inception in 2006, Hart Howerton's Fellowship program has offered students the added advantages of professional office experience, collaborative interdisciplinary design and worldwide travel and research. Now in its eleventh year, the fellowship continues to offer students an unparalleled learning experience from working as part of Hart Howerton's project team in either their New York or San Francisco office and pursuing a self-defined travel topic. Fellows return to the offices to complete their professional internship and prepare a final "report," which is presented to the firm. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students in planning, architecture, landscape architecture or urban design.
Portia Malik, a Master of Architecture candidate at University of Pennsylvania, will study the emerging agricultural practice of vertical farming in Scandinavia and the West Coast of the United States, exploring how highly efficient farming can be integrated into individual buildings and it's alignment to Hart Howerton's Healthy Living Initiative. Molly Taylor, a Master of Architecture candidate at the University of Oregon, will explore the new techniques of timber construction for larger buildings in the context of improving wellness and return on investment.
"We continue to be inspired by the depth and breadth of work produced by our industry's next generation of design leaders," stated Dave Howerton, Hart Howerton's Chairman. "Portia and Molly have posed important questions that will affect the way we shape our environments, and we're excited to be a part of advancing their research."
